Garlic is the dried root of Allium sativum, a member of the lily family. Garlic grows in a bulb that consists of a number of cloves. garlic is actually considered both a vegetable and an herb .
Use Minced Garlic or Garlic Chips in pasta sauces, stews, and soups. Mix with oil and vinegar and Italian spices to make salad dressing. Garlic Powder can be used in marinades, or mixed with herbs and rubbed into poultry, pork, or beef before cooking.
Although garlic has a firm texture, they can be easily cut or crushed. The taste of garlic is like no other; it hits the palate with a hot pungency that is shadowed by a very subtle background sweetness.
Garlic originates from the Middle East and central Asia, but is now grown worldwide. Garlic is not only used for its medicinal properties but also for its culinary properties. Sulphur-containing phytochemicals such as allicin are responsible for the health effects of garlic but they are also the source for the typical garlic smell. Garlic supplements without the typical garlic smell are therefore of questionable value
Garlic has also been known as a stigma of superstition and has been regarded as both a good and evil force. However, it is most commonly known as a tool used to ward off vampires.
