Manestra (Meat With Orzo)

Recipe Ingredients

1 tablespoon 15mlOil
1 lb 454g / 16ozBeef or lamb stew meat
2   Onions - chopped
1 cup 237mlTomato sauce - -=or=-
1 tablespoon 15ml- tomato paste instead
1 teaspoon 5mlSalt
1/8 teaspoon 0.6mlPepper
1/8 teaspoon 0.6mlCinnamon
1 teaspoon 5mlSpearmint flakes
4 cups 948mlBoiling water
1 cup 237mlManestra - (orzo)
1 cup 146g / 5.1ozGrated cheese - (mizithra!)

Recipe Instructions

Heat oil in large saucepan and brown meat and onions for 10 minutes over medium heat. Add tomato, seasonings, and 2 cups water. Cover and simmer for 1 1/2 hours until meat is tender.

Add remaining water and bring to a boil. Add manestra. Stir once or twice. Simmer 20 minutes more. Serve hot with grated cheese.
