Slow-Simmered Pork Roast Recipe - Cooking Index
2 1/4 lbs | 1021g / 36oz | Boneless pork butt |
3 | Green onions - slivered | |
1 teaspoon | 5ml | Fresh ginger root - julienne |
2 | Star anise | |
2 tablespoons | 30ml | Mein see - see * note |
2 tablespoons | 30ml | Soy sauce - light |
2 teaspoons | 10ml | Brown sugar |
1 cup | 237ml | Chinese rice wine - or dry sherry |
2 | Garlic cloves - sliced thin | |
1/2 teaspoon | 2.5ml | White pepper - freshly-ground or to taste |
2 cups | 474ml | Water - more may be needed |
* Note: Soybean condiment available in Asian markets.
Mix together all the ingredients except the pork. Place the meat in an ovenproof casserole just large enough to hold it. A crockpot may be used.
Pour the sauce over the top, cover the dish and bake at 275 degrees from 5 to 8 hours, depending on your taste.
