Stuffed Cheeseburger

Recipe Ingredients

1 lb 454g / 16ozGround chuck or ground round
1 tablespoon 15mlGrated onion
1 teaspoon 5mlKetchup
1 teaspoon 5mlWorcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon 5mlChopped fresh thyme
  = (or 1/4 tspn dried thyme)
  Salt - to taste
  Freshly-ground black pepper - to taste
4   Danish blue cheese cubes (small)
  For Serving
4   Hamburger buns - (optional)
  Boston lettuce leaves - (optional)
  Sliced red onion - (optional)
  Sliced ripe tomato - (optional)

Recipe Instructions

Lightly toss the meat in a bowl with the onion, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce and thyme. Season with salt and pepper.

Form 4 large patties, about 3 inches in diameter and 1 1/2 inches thick. To stuff, remove some meat from the top half of each patty and place a cheese cube in the center. Replace the meat and flatten slightly. Refrigerate, covered, for 15 to 20 minutes.

Prepare hot coals for grilling. Brush grill with oil. Grill the burgers 3 inches from the heat, about 4 minutes per side for medium-rare meat. Serve immediately on buns, if desired, with garnishes.

This recipe yields 4 servings.
