Ham With Cherry Sauce Recipe - Cooking Index
This makes a great lunch or supper treat that is simplicity itself to prepare.
Courses: Main Course4 tablespoons | 60ml | Sour cherry jam |
1 | Garlic clove - crushed, left whole | |
4 tablespoons | 60ml | Red wine |
4 tablespoons | 60ml | Chicken stock |
= (made with a bouillon cube) | ||
4 tablespoons | 60ml | Butter |
1 | Ground mace | |
8 | Smoked ham - (abt 1 lb) | |
Parsley sprigs - to garnish |
Place the jam, garlic, wine, stock, butter, and mace in a skillet. Heat gently, stirring, until the jam and butter have melted.
Add the slices of ham to the skillet and simmer over medium heat for about 4 minutes, until the sauce has reduced by half and the ham is hot.
Remove the garlic clove. Serve the ham with the sauce and garnish with parsley.
This recipe yields 4 servings.
Variation: There are several simple variations on this recipe -- all work equally well. If sour cherry jam is unavailable, use black cherry jam and add the juice of half a lemon. Try making the sauce with red currant jelly, and substitute slices of tongue, corned beef, turkey, pastrami, or smoked loin of pork for the ham.
