Sweet And Sour Meatballs

Recipe Ingredients

1 lb 454g / 16ozLean ground beef
1/2 cup 73g / 2.6ozDry unseasoned bread crumbs
1/4 cup 59mlReduced-sodium beef broth
1   Egg
1 teaspoon 5mlMinced garlic
2 teaspoons 10mlReduced-sodium soy sauce
4   Hot pepper sauce
1/4 teaspoon 1.3mlDried thyme leaves
1/2 teaspoon 2.5mlSalt
1/2 teaspoon 2.5mlFreshly-ground black pepper
  Sweet and Sour Sauce - (see below)
  Finely-chopped parsley
  Sweet and Sour Sauce
1 cup 237mlReduced-sodium beef broth
3 1/2 teaspoons 17mlEqual For Recpies
  = (or 12 packets Equal sweetener
  Or 1/2 cup Equal Spoonful)
1 tablespoon 15mlCornstarch
1 tablespoon 15mlLemon juice
1 tablespoon 15mlReduced-sodium soy sauce
1 tablespoon 15mlDijon-style mustard
2 teaspoons 10mlTomato paste
1/2 teaspoon 2.5mlGrated orange peel
2   3 dashes red pepper sauce - (to 3)
  Salt - to taste
  Freshly-ground black pepper - to taste

Recipe Instructions

Mix all ingredients except Sweet and Sour Sauce and parsley; shape into 20 meatballs and place in baking pan. Bake meatballs in preheated 350 degrees oven until browned and no longer pink in center, about 20 minutes.

Arrange meatballs in serving dish; pour hot Sweet and Sour Sauce over meatballs and sprinkle with parsley. Serve over noodles or rice.

For the Sweet and Sour Sauce: Mix beef broth, Equal and cornstarch in small saucepan; stir in remaining ingredients except salt and pepper and heat to boiling. Boil, stirring constantly, until thickened, about 1 minute. Season to taste with salt and pepper.
