Simple Stove Top Tamale Pie

Recipe Ingredients

1 lb 454g / 16ozGround beef or turkey
1   Red kidney beans - (14 1/2 oz) - undrained
1   Tomato sauce - (8 oz)
1 tablespoon 15mlMcCormick chili powder
2 tablespoons 30mlMccormick California-style minced onion
1/2 teaspoon 2.5mlMcCormick California-style garlic salt
1 teaspoon 5mlSugar
1   Corn muffin mix - (8 oz)
1 cup 146g / 5.1ozShredded cheddar cheese
1/4 cup 15g / 0.5ozSliced green onion

Recipe Instructions

In a large skillet, brown ground beef over medium-high heat; drain. Stir in next six (6) ingredients. Bring to boil; reduce heat, simmer 10 minutes.

Prepare muffin mix according to package directions. Drop small spoonfuls of muffin batter over meat mixture in skillet. Gently spread batter to cover meat mixture completely. Cover and cook 15 to 17 minutes or until corn bread is done.

Top with cheese and green onion. Cover and cook over low heat until cheese melts.

This recipe yields 6 servings.
