1 1/2 lbs | 681g / 24oz | Ground beef |
1 cup | 237ml | Milk |
1 tablespoon | 15ml | Worcestershire sauce |
1 teaspoon | 5ml | Chopped fresh sage leaves |
(or 1/4 tspn dried sage) | ||
1/2 teaspoon | 2.5ml | Salt |
1/2 teaspoon | 2.5ml | Ground mustard |
1/4 teaspoon | 1.3ml | Freshly-ground black pepper |
1 | Garlic clove - finely chopped | |
(or 1/8 tspn garlic powder) | ||
1 | Egg | |
3 | Bread - torn small pieces | |
1 | Onion - chopped (1/4 cup) (small) | |
1/2 cup | 118ml | Ketchup, chili sauce or barbecue sauce |
Heat oven to 350 degrees.
Mix all ingredients except ketchup. Spread mixture in ungreased loaf pan, 8 1/2 by 4 1/2 by 2 1/2 or 9 by 5 by 3inches, or shape into 9- by 5-inch loaf in ungreased rectangular pan, 13 by 9 by 2 inches. Spread ketchup over top.
Insert meat thermometer so tip is in center of loaf. Bake uncovered 1 to 1 1/4 hours until thermometer reads 160 degrees.
Let stand 5 minutes; remove from pan.
This recipe yields 6 servings.
