Casserole Bean Bake

Recipe Ingredients

1 lb 454g / 16ozDry navy beans
6 cups 1422mlWater
2 teaspoons 10mlSalt
1/2 cup 118mlCatsup
1/2 cup 118mlChili sauce
1/4 cup 40g / 1.4ozBrown sugar - packed firmly
6   Bacon
2 tablespoons 30mlMolasses
2/3 cup 41g / 1.4ozOnion - chopped
1/4 teaspoon 1.3mlDry mustard
1/4 teaspoon 1.3mlGinger
1 1/2 cups 240g / 8.5ozBean liquid

Recipe Instructions

Combine beans, water and salt in a large pan. Cover an simmer until almost tender, about 1 1/2 hours. Drain beans but save the liquid to use later. Combine chili sauce, brown sugar, molasses, onion, mustard and ginger and stir in bean liquid. Mix with cooked beans. Pour into casserole or heavy skillet.

Top with slices of bacon. Bake in a low oven 300F, 1 1/2 to 2 hrs. If beans become dry during baking, stir in a little more bean liquid or water.
