A variety of herbs may be used: cilantro (Mexican), nutmeg (Mid-Eastern), oregano (Italian), fennel or rosemary (French). Also, try different vegetables: sweet onions, green onions, thin sliced tomatoes, egg plant, hearts of palm, mushrooms, asparagus tips. For a change in taste, try roasting the vegetables first. Values are for approximately 1/2 to 1 cup of vegetable topping. Herbs do not contribute to calorie content of this recipe. Herbs of choice |
Spread tomato sauce over Italian bread shell. Top with sliced vegetables, mozzarella cheese and herbs of choice. Place into heated skillet. Add two tablespoons water and cover tightly. Steam until cheese is melted and pizza is heated through -- about 2 minutes.
