Sopaipillas - 1 Recipe - Cooking Index
1 cup | 62g / 2.2oz | All-purpose flour |
1 1/2 teaspoons | 7.5ml | Baking powder |
1/4 teaspoon | 1.3ml | Salt |
1 tablespoon | 15ml | Shortening |
1/3 cup | 78ml | Warm water |
Cooking oil - for deep-fat frying | ||
Honey - optional | ||
Confectioners' sugar - optional |
In a bowl, combine flour, baking powder and salt. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles fine crumbs. Gradually add water, stirring with a fork. The dough will be crumbly. On a lightly floured surface, knead the dough for 3 minutes or until smooth. Cover and let rest for 10 minutes. Roll out into a 12x10" rectangle. Cut into 12 squares. In a deep-fat fryer, heat 2" of oil to 375F.
Fry sopaipillas for 1-2 minutes per side. Drain on paper towels, keep hot in a warm oven. Serve with honey or dust with confectioners' sugar, if desired.
