Spicy Apple Cake Recipe - Cooking Index
3/4 cup | 120g / 4.2oz | Brown sugar - packed |
1 tablespoon | 15ml | Cornstarch |
1/2 teaspoon | 2.5ml | Ground cinnamon |
1/8 teaspoon | 0.6ml | Ground nutmeg |
1/8 teaspoon | 0.6ml | Ground cloves |
1 tablespoon | 15ml | Orange peel - grated |
1/2 cup | 118ml | Water |
2 cups | 292g / 10oz | Fresh apples - chopped |
1 cup | 160g / 5.6oz | Raisins |
3/4 cup | 109g / 3.8oz | Walnuts - chopped |
1 teaspoon | 5ml | Vanilla extract |

1/3 cup | 78ml | Crisco oil |
1 1/4 cups | 296ml | Water |

Preheat oven to 350 deg. Grease 13x9x2 inch pan and line with waxed paper; grease paper.
Combine brown sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, orange peel and 1/2 cup water in saucepan. Cool and stir over med. heat until mixture boils and thickens.
Remove from heat; stir in apples, raisins, walnuts and vanilla ext. Turn into pan and spread evenly.
Combine dry cake mix, eggs, oil and 1 1/4 cup water in large mixer bowl. Mix batter as directed on package. Turn into pan and spread evenly over apple mixture.
Bake at 350 deg. for 40 to 45 minutes. or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. At once, invert pan onto large platter.
Remove pan and peel off paper.
Serve warm with whipped cream or ice cream, if desired.
