Sour Milk Cake

Recipe Ingredients

1 1/2 cups 93g / 3.3ozFlour - sifted
1 cup 198g / 7ozSugar
3 tablespoons 45mlBaking cocoa
1 teaspoon 5mlBaking soda
1/2 teaspoon 2.5mlSalt
1   Egg
1/4 cup 49g / 1.7ozButter or margarine - melted
1 cup 237mlMilk - sour
1/4 cup 59mlHot water
1 tablespoon 15mlVanilla

Recipe Instructions

Preheat oven to 350F. Sift together flour, sugar, cocoa, baking soda and salt into mixing bowl. Add egg, butter, sour milk, hot water and vanilla. Beat (preferably with an electric mixer) at medium speed for 2 minutes.

Pour batter into a greased 13x9x2-inch baking pan.

Bake at 350F for 20 minutes or until it tests done (a toothpick or fork comes out clean). Cool in pan.

NOTES:

* Aunt Georgie's chocolate cake -- Don't cry over sour milk; make a chocolate cake out of it. This cake is from the "Farm Journal's Choice Chocolate Recipes" cookbook.

It is moist and rich and does not need frosting Mint chocolate ice cream and a slab of this cake makes an outrageous dessert.

* To sour sweet milk, place about 1 tbs vinegar in a measuring cup and add enough milk to make about 1 cup.

Difficulty: easy.

Time: 15 minutes mixing, 20 minutes baking.

Precision: Measure the ingredients.
