Mom's Heath Bar Cake Recipe - Cooking Index
2 cups | 320g / 11oz | Brown sugar |
2 cups | 125g / 4.4oz | All-purpose flour |
1/2 cup | 99g / 3.5oz | Butter |
1 teaspoon | 5ml | Baking soda |
1 cup | 237ml | Buttermilk |
1 | Egg | |
1 teaspoon | 5ml | Vanilla |
1 | Salt | |
7 | Heath candy bars - frozen | |
1/3 cup | 48g / 1.7oz | Nuts - chopped (optional) |
In a large bowl blend brown sugar, flour, and butter with a pastry blender.
Remove 1 cup and set aside for topping.
Mix baking soda into buttermilk. Add egg, vanilla, and salt, stirring to blend. Mix with original dry ingredients in bowl.
Pour into 9" x 11" greased baking pan. Top with resaved cup of the flour-sugar mixture. Finely crush the Heath bars (still frozen) sprinkle over the top of the cake. Add nuts if desired.
Bake at 350F for 35 minutes. Serves 8 to 10.
NOTES : This is one of my mothers favorite and prized recipes. If you really want to go crazy, serve warm with vanilla ice cream.
