That wonderful mole store in Oaxaca, Mayordomo, says to do this with their paste:
Shuck the tomatillos and boil until cooked through; Puree in a blender to a rough texture.
Saute the onion in a bit of oil remembering the paste has some oil in it. Add the paste and saute a few minutes. Add the tomatillos.
Thin with chicken broth and simmer 10 minutes adding broth as needed.
Remember in Mexico, with the exception of Chiapas, tomate is tomatillos and jitomate is tomato.
