Frosted Date Ring Recipe - Cooking Index
1/2 cup | 99g / 3.5oz | Shortening - soft |
3/4 cup | 120g / 4.2oz | Brown sugar - firmly packed |

1 teaspoon | 5ml | Vanilla |
1 1/2 cups | 93g / 3.3oz | All-purpose flour - sifted |
1 1/2 teaspoons | 7.5ml | Baking powder |
1/2 teaspoon | 2.5ml | Soda |
1/2 teaspoon | 2.5ml | Salt |
1/2 teaspoon | 2.5ml | Cinnamon |
1/4 teaspoon | 1.3ml | Cloves |
1 1/4 cups | 296ml | Buttermilk |
1/2 cup | 31g / 1.1oz | Nutmeats - chopped |
1 1/2 cups | 219g / 7.7oz | Chopped pitted dates |
1 cup | 62g / 2.2oz | Quaker oats - uncooked |

Beat shortening and sugar together until creamy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Blend in vanilla. Sift together flour, baking powder, soda, salt and spices. Add to creamed mixture alternately with buttermilk; blend well. Stir in nutmeats, dates and oats.
Pour into well-greased and floured 1-1/2 quart ring mold.
Bake in preheated slow oven (325F.) 45 to 50 minutes. Loosen edges; cool on wire rack about 15 minutes.
Remove from mold; cool.
Frost with orange butter cream frosting. Decorate with red and green candied cherries.
