First Ingredients | ||
2 cups | 125g / 4.4oz | Flour - sifted |
2 cups | 396g / 13oz | Sugar |
3/4 cup | 148g / 5.2oz | Shortening |
1 teaspoon | 5ml | Salt |
2/3 cup | 73g / 2.6oz | Cocoa |
3/4 cup | 177ml | Milk |
Second Ingredients | ||
1/2 teaspoon | 2.5ml | Baking powder |
1 1/2 teaspoons | 7.5ml | Baking soda |
1/2 cup | 118ml | Milk |
3 cups | 594g / 20oz | Eggs - unbeaten (medium) |
1 teaspoon | 5ml | Vanilla |
In a bowl, mix first ingredients for 2 minutes.
Add second ingredients and beat at medium speed for 2 minutes. Pour batter into two 9" lightly greased round cake pans.
Bake for 30 minutes at 350F
Cool cake for 15 minutes in pans on wire rack.
Loosen edges with a spatula.
Place rack over cake and invert.
When completely cool frost as desired.
Makes one 9 inch round two layer cake, 12 servings.
