2 cups | 125g / 4.4oz | Flour - (unsifted) |
2 teaspoons | 10ml | Soda |
1 teaspoon | 5ml | Cinnamon |
1/2 teaspoon | 2.5ml | Allspice |
1/2 teaspoon | 2.5ml | Nutmeg |
1/4 teaspoon | 1.3ml | Cloves |
1/4 teaspoon | 1.3ml | Salt |

1 cup | 160g / 5.6oz | Light brown sugar - packed firm |
1/2 cup | 99g / 3.5oz | Butter - softened |
2 cups | 474ml | Applesauce - heated |
1 cup | 146g / 5.1oz | Dates - chopped |
3/4 cup | 177ml | Pecans - coarsely shopped |

Preheat oven to 350F. Grease well and flour a 9X9X2" pan.
Into large bowl, sift flour with soda, spices and salt. Add eggs, brown sugar, butter, and 1 cup hot applesauce; at low speed, beat just until the ingredients are combined.
At medium speed, beat 2 minutes longer, occasionally scraping the side of the bowl and guiding mixture into the beater with a rubber scraper.
Add remaining applesauce, dates, and walnuts; beat 1 minute. Pour batter into pan. Bake 50 minutes OR UNTIL straw comes out clean. Cool 10 minutes in pan.
