Spiced Beef Recipe - Cooking Index

1 teaspoon | 5ml | Fresh grated ginger |
1/4 cup | 36g / 1.3oz | Chopped walnuts |
1 teaspoon | 5ml | Coriander |
1/2 teaspoon | 2.5ml | Cumin |
1/4 teaspoon | 1.3ml | Turmeric |
1/4 teaspoon | 1.3ml | Red pepper flakes |
1 teaspoon | 5ml | Brown sugar |
1/2 cup | 118ml | Brown sauce or gravy |
1/3 cup | 78ml | Creamed coconut |
3/4 cup | 177ml | Boiling water |
1. Trim any fat from the beef and cut the meat into strips about 2-in. long and 1/4-1/2-in thick.
2. Heat the butter in a large skillet and add the strips of beef. Cook over high heat about 2-3 minutes , stirring to brown evenly. Remove the meat with a slotted spoon and set aside.
3. Add the onion, garlic and ginger to the skillet and cook, until wilted. Add the walnuts, coriander, cumin, turmeric, red pepper flakes and sugar. Stir to blend.
4. Add the brown sauce or beef gravy. Dissolve the creamed coconut in the boiling water and add to the skillet. Cook gently for 3-4 minutes , stirring frequently.
5. Return the meat to the skillet and stir to mix with the sauce. Heat through gently.
