1/4 cup | 27g / 1oz | Chopped celery |
1/4 cup | 36g / 1.3oz | Chopped green pepper |

1 teaspoon | 5ml | Sugar |
3/4 teaspoon | 3.8ml | Italian seasoning |
1/4 teaspoon | 1.3ml | Garlic powder |
1/4 teaspoon | 1.3ml | Pepper |
1/8 teaspoon | 0.6ml | Salt |
1/8 teaspoon | 0.6ml | Hot sauce |
1/3 cup | 53g / 1.9oz | Long grain white rice - uncooked |
1/4 teaspoon | 1.3ml | Ground turmeric |
Coat a medium saucepan with cooking spray, and place over medium-high heat until hot.
Add onion, celery and green pepper; cook, stirring constantly, until tender.
Stir in drained beans and next 7 ingredients; bring to a boil. Reduce heat, and simmer, uncovered, 15 minutes or until thickened, stirring frequently; set aside.
Combine water, rice, and turmeric in a saucepan; bring to a boil.
Cover, reduce heat, and simmer 20 minutes. Remove rice from heat; let stand 5 minutes or until liquid is absorbed.
Serve black bean mixture over rice.
