1 | Granny smith apple - peeled, sliced thin | |
1 tablespoon | 15ml | Grated orange zest |
1/2 cup | 80g / 2.8oz | Light brown sugar |
1/2 teaspoon | 2.5ml | Cinnamon |

1/2 cup | 31g / 1.1oz | Flour (plus 1 tbsp.) |
1 tablespoon | 15ml | Unsalted butter - in bits |
1/2 teaspoon | 2.5ml | Baking powder |
1/4 teaspoon | 1.3ml | Salt |
2 tablespoons | 30ml | Shortening |
1/3 cup | 78ml | Plain yogurt |
1/2 teaspoon | 2.5ml | Sugar |
Preheat oven to 400.
In a shallow 2-cup baking dish toss together the cranberries, apple, zest, brown sugar, cinnamon, cloves, and 1 tablespoon of the flour. Dot the top with the butter.
In a bowl stir together the remaining 1/2 cup of flour, baking powder and salt. Add the shortening, blend the mixture until it resembles coarse meal, and stir in the yogurt (dough will be sticky).
Drop the dough by spoonfuls onto the cranberry mixture, sprinkle it with the sugar and bake for 30 minutes.
