Chess Pie A La Karo Recipe - Cooking Index

1 cup | 328g / 11oz | Karo syrup - (light) |
1 cup | 198g / 7oz | Sugar |
2 tablespoons | 30ml | Margarine - melted |
1 teaspoon | 5ml | Vanilla |
1 | Uncooked pie shell |
Preheat oven to 350F. In large bowl, stir all ingredients together until well mixed. Pour into pie shell and bake 50-55 min or until knife inserted halfway between center and edge come out clean. Cool before cutting.
Lemon chess: I omitted the vanilla extract and grated the zest of one lemon on the finest side of the grater (just the yellow part, not the bitter white part) and squeezed the juice into the filling. It was wonderful. You might also use lemon extract.
Chocolate chess: Use vanilla flavoring and add chocolate flavoring with melted chocolate (I used chocolate syrup and added another egg because of the extra liquid).
