5 tablespoons | 75ml | Apples - peeled and sliced (medium) |
1/2 cup | 73g / 2.6oz | Walnuts - chopped |
1 teaspoon | 5ml | Cinnamon |
1/4 teaspoon | 1.3ml | Ground cloves- topping |
3 teaspoons | 15ml | Margarine - non-dairy softened |
1/4 cup | 15g / 0.5oz | Flour - whole-grain wheat |
3 teaspoons | 15ml | Brown sugar |
4 teaspoons | 20ml | Wheat germ |
1/2 teaspoon | 2.5ml | Cinnamon |
1/2 teaspoon | 2.5ml | Nutmeg |
Preheat oven to 350F. Combine the first four ingredients in a mixing bowl, and mix together until the spices coat the apples more or less evenly.
Grease an 8 x 8-inch or 9 x 9-inch baking pan and arrange the apples in it.
Cut the margarine into thin slices and place in a mixing bowl. Add the remaining topping ingredients and cream together with a fork until a crumbly mixture is formed.
Sprinkle evenly over the apples and bake for 50 to 60 minutes, or until the apples are done and the crust is browned.
