Naan (Traditional Indian Bread) Recipe - Cooking Index
3 cups | 187g / 6.6oz | Flour |
1 cup | 62g / 2.2oz | Wheat flour |
1 1/2 teaspoons | 7.5ml | Salt |
1 tablespoon | 15ml | Sugar |
4 tablespoons | 60ml | Yogurt |
4 tablespoons | 60ml | Fresh yeast - (dissolved in) |

1 | Sesame seeds - optional | |

Makes: 12 naans Time required: One hour 10 minutes plus proving time
MIX flour, wheat flour, salt, sugar and yogurt well. Incorporate yeast into it. Mix well. Add enough water to knead to a smooth but non-sticky dough. Cover and keep aside for 20 minutes. Knead again and cover with a cloth. Keep in a warm place for 30 to 40 minutes to rise. Roll 1.5 cm thick circles. Stick inside the lid of a hot tandoor and bake for about five minutes. If using sesame seeds, sprinkle them over the naan and press lightly. Fry in butter until golden and serve hot.
