Braune Zucker Platzchen (Brown Sugar Cookies)

Recipe Ingredients

1 1/2 cups 240g / 8.5ozBrown sugar; firmly packed
2/3 cup 131g / 4.6ozShortening
2   Eggs; large
2 tablespoons 30mlMilk
1 tablespoon 15mlOrange rind; grated
2 teaspoons 10mlBaking powder
1 teaspoon 5mlCinnamon
1/2 teaspoon 2.5mlCloves
1/4 teaspoon 1.3mlSalt
2 cups 125g / 4.4ozUnbleached flour
1 cup 160g / 5.6ozRaisins
1/2 cup 73g / 2.6ozNuts; chopped - if desired

Recipe Instructions

Cream sugar and shortening until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs, milk and orange rind. Stir together baking powder, spices, salt and flour. Mix into sugar mixture.

Stir in raisins and nuts, if used. Drop dough by teaspoonfuls onto greased cookie sheets.

Bake at 350F about 10 to 12 minutes, or until done. Remove from baking sheets and cool cookies on rack. Store in airtight tins.

Makes about 4 to 5 dozen cookies.
