English Sweet And Sour Ribs

Recipe Ingredients

3 lbs 1362g / 48ozChuck short ribs *
2 teaspoons 10mlSeasoned salt
1/2 cup 118mlCooking oil
1 1/2 cups 355mlHot water
1/3 cup 78mlCatsup
2   Garlic - minced
3/4 cup 46g / 1.6ozUnbleached all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon 5mlPepper
2 cups 125g / 4.4ozSliced onion
8   Dark brown sugar
1/4 cup 59mlRed wine vinegar
2 cups 80g / 2.8ozBay leaves (large)

Recipe Instructions

* Short ribs should be meaty and cut in the English cut.

Trim excess fat from short ribs. Combine flour, seasoned salt and pepper; dredge short ribs. Brown ribs in oil on all sides in Dutch oven. Remove meat from pan. Add onions and cook until golden brown.

Place ribs on top of onions. Combine water, brown sugar, catsup, vinegar, garlic and bay leaves; pour over ribs. Cover and bake in moderate oven (350F) 2 1/2 hours.

Remove bay leaves before serving.
