Apple-Pecan Stuffing Recipe - Cooking Index
12 cups | 2844ml | Homemade-style whole-wheat or white bread in 1/2 |
1/2 cup | 99g / 3.5oz | Butter |
2 cups | 125g / 4.4oz | Chopped onion |
1 cup | 110g / 3.9oz | Chopped celery |
2 | Golden Delicious apples - peeled, and cut into 1/2 | |
1 teaspoon | 5ml | Rubbed sage |
1 teaspoon | 5ml | Dried thyme |
1 teaspoon | 5ml | Salt |
1/2 teaspoon | 2.5ml | Freshly-ground black pepper |
1 cup | 146g / 5.1oz | Chopped roasted pecans |
1 1/2 cups | 355ml | Chicken broth |
In a preheated 400 degree oven, toast bread cubes 5 to 7 minutes or until barely golden.
In a large skillet, melt 6 tablespoons butter and cook onion and celery over medium heat for 3 minutes or until softened.
In another skillet, melt remaining 2 tablespoons butter, add apples, and saute until softened. Transfer onion mixture, apples, bread cubes, herbs, salt, pepper, pecans, and chicken broth to a bowl. Toss well and adjust seasoning. Transfer to baking dish and bake at 325 degrees for 20 minutes until heated through and crust forms on top.
