Golden Split Pea Soup With Ham Recipe - Cooking Index
2 | Yellow onions - peeled, and (medium) | |
Coarsely chopped | ||
2 tablespoons | 30ml | Bacon drippings, butter, or margarine |
1 | Ham hock | |
1 lb | 454g / 16oz | Yellow split peas - washed, sorted |
3 | Water | |
1/8 teaspoon | 0.6ml | Rosemary |
1 tablespoon | 15ml | Salt |
1/4 teaspoon | 1.3ml | Freshly-ground black pepper |
Stir-fry onions in drippings 5 to 8 minutes in a large saucepan over moderate heat until pale golden. Add ham and stir-fry 5 minutes. Add remaining ingredients, cover, and simmer 1 hour, stirring occasionally. Serve steaming hot with butterychunks of garlic bread.
This recipe yields 8 to 10 servings.
