Traditional Raisin Scones Recipe - Cooking Index
3 cups | 187g / 6.6oz | All-purpose flour |
1 tablespoon | 15ml | Baking powder |
1 cup | 198g / 7oz | Unsalted butter - (2 sticks) - room temperature |
1/4 cup | 49g / 1.7oz | Sugar - plus |
2 tablespoons | 30ml | Sugar |
3 tablespoons | 45ml | Eggs (large) |
1/3 cup | 78ml | Buttermilk |
1/2 cup | 80g / 2.8oz | Raisins |
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
Sift together the flour and baking powder. In a separate bowl, beat the butter until creamy. Add the 1/4 cup sugar, beating until pale and fluffy. Add the eggs, 1 at a time, then add the flour mixture and the buttermilk. Sprinkle the raisins over the dough and gently fold them in.
Using an ice-cream scoop, place mounds of dough on a baking sheet and sprinkle with the remaining sugar. Bake for 20 minutes. Serve the scones warm, with softened butter and preserves.
This recipe yields 12 scones.
