American Indian Slow-Cook Stew Recipe - Cooking Index
1/2 cup | 118ml | Lentils - rinsed |
1/2 cup | 80g / 2.8oz | Navy beans - rinsed |
2 cups | 125g / 4.4oz | Chopped onions |
2 cups | 220g / 7.8oz | Sliced celery |
5 | Carrots - scrubbed, sliced | |
1/4 cup | 40g / 1.4oz | Brown sugar |
1 cup | 237ml | Barley |
1/2 teaspoon | 2.5ml | Thyme |
1/4 teaspoon | 1.3ml | Garlic powder |
2 | Bay leaves | |
1 teaspoon | 5ml | Freshly-ground black pepper |
1/2 cup | 118ml | Red wine |
1 can | V-8® vegetable juice | |
2 cups | 474ml | Water |
Combine all ingredients in slow cooker. Cook for 4 to 6 hours on HIGH heat or for 8 to 10 hours on LOW heat. Remove bay leaves before serving.
