American Indian Slow-Cook Stew

Recipe Ingredients

1/2 cup 118mlLentils - rinsed
1/2 cup 80g / 2.8ozNavy beans - rinsed
2 cups 125g / 4.4ozChopped onions
2 cups 220g / 7.8ozSliced celery
5   Carrots - scrubbed, sliced
1/4 cup 40g / 1.4ozBrown sugar
1 cup 237mlBarley
1/2 teaspoon 2.5mlThyme
1/4 teaspoon 1.3mlGarlic powder
2   Bay leaves
1 teaspoon 5mlFreshly-ground black pepper
1/2 cup 118mlRed wine
1 can  V-8® vegetable juice
2 cups 474mlWater

Recipe Instructions

Combine all ingredients in slow cooker.  Cook for 4 to 6 hours on HIGH heat or for 8 to 10 hours on LOW heat.  Remove bay leaves before serving.
