If you can't find Bran Buds use Grapenuts instead (or something similar in texture).

1 cup | 237ml | Bran Buds |
1 cup | 237ml | Boiling water |
1 cup | 237ml | Nuts |
2 cups | 474ml | Dried fruit |
= (a mixture of prunes, raisins and dates) | ||
2 1/2 cups | 156g / 5.5oz | Flour |
2 1/2 teaspoons | 12ml | Baking soda |
1/2 teaspoon | 2.5ml | Salt |
1/2 cup | 99g / 3.5oz | Margarine - (1 stick) |
1 cup | 160g / 5.6oz | Brown sugar |
3 | Eggs | |
1 teaspoon | 5ml | Vanilla |
2 cups | 474ml | Buttermilk |
In a mixing bowl, combine All Bran and Bran Buds and pour boiling water over all. Set aside to cool. Add nuts to cooled mixture.
In a small saucepan, place dried fruit and cover with water. Simmer for 10 minutes. Set aside to cool.
In a mixing bowl, stir together flour, soda and salt. In another bowl, cream margarine, brown sugar, eggs and vanilla. Add buttermilk and combine. Make a well in the flour mixture and add creamed mixture. Add all of fruit, undrained. Stir in bran mixture just until combined.
Bake at 350 degrees for 20 to 25 minutes. Mixture will keep tightly covered in the ice box for 3 weeks.
