Mixed Grain And Wild Rice Cereal

Recipe Ingredients

8 cups 1896mlWater
1/2 cup 80g / 2.8ozWild rice
1/2 cup 118mlPearl barley
1/2 cup 31g / 1.1ozSteel-cut oats (Irish oatmeal)
1/2 cup 118mlBulgur wheat
1/2 cup 80g / 2.8ozRaisins
1/2 cup 73g / 2.6ozChopped pitted dates
1/4 cup 40g / 1.4ozDark brown sugar - plus
2 tablespoons 30mlDark brown sugar - (firmly packed)
3 tablespoons 45mlButter
3/4 teaspoon 3.8mlSalt
1/2 teaspoon 2.5mlGround cinnamon

Recipe Instructions

Simmer 2 cups water and wild rice in small saucepan 20 minutes. Drain.

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Butter 2 1/2-quart ovenproof dish. In prepared dish, mix wild rice with remaining 6 cups water. Stir in all remaining ingredients. Cover loosely with foil and bake until grains are tender, water is absorbed and cereal is creamy, stirring occasionally, about 1 1/2 hours.

This recipe yields 8 servings.
