Oatmeal Bars

Recipe Ingredients

220   Shortening
200   Brown sugar
190   Granulated sugar
4   Eggs - beaten well
5   Vanilla extract
150   White flour - sifted
5   Salt
5   Baking soda
150   Quick-cooking oats
40   Chopped walnuts - (optional)

Recipe Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 175C .

2. Cream shortening and sugars. Add eggs and vanilla. Beat well.

3. Sift flour, salt, and soda and add to creamed sugars. Add oatmeal and nuts, and mix well.

4. Spread evenly into a greased 33x22x4-cm baking pan. Bake at 175C for 20 minutes.

5. While still warm, cut into squares and remove from pan.
