Cherry or strawberry jam | ||

2 1/2 | Mace or nutmeg | |
250 | Red wine | |
2 1/2 | Vanilla |
1. Place apples in a buttered casserole or baking dish. Fill each with jam.
2. Blend sugar and mace and stir in wine and vanilla. Pour over apples and cover.
3. Bake at 175C for 1 hour.
4. Refrigerate for 2 to 4 hours before serving.
Author's Notes: This recipe could be used as part of a 12 course meal known in Polish as Wigilia, or on its own. Wigilia is eaten after sundown on Christmas Eve.
