| 1 cup | 62g / 2.2oz | Flour |
| 1/3 cup | 36g / 1.3oz | Cocoa |
| 3/4 cup | 148g / 5.2oz | Sugar |
| 2 teaspoons | 10ml | Baking powder |
| 1/2 teaspoon | 2.5ml | Salt |
| 1/4 cup | 49g / 1.7oz | Shortening |
| 1 | Egg | |
| 2/3 cup | 157ml | Milk |
| Sauce | ||
| 3/4 cup | 148g / 5.2oz | Sugar |
| 1/4 cup | 27g / 1oz | Cocoa |
| 2 tablespoons | 30ml | Water |
| 2 cups | 474ml | Water - boiling |
Put dry ingredients in a bowl and cut in shortening or margarine.
Add egg and milk. Stir until blended.
Put batter in a greased 8" pan.
Blend sauce ingredients and pour gently over batter.
Bake at 350F for 35-40 minutes. Serve with milk or cream.
