Gingerbread Recipe - Cooking Index
200 | White sugar | |
1 | Salt | |
5 | Ginger | |
2 1/2 | Cinnamon | |
2 1/2 | Powdered cloves | |
250 | Vegetable oil | |
250 | Light molasses | |
10 | Baking soda - not baking powder | |
250 | Boiling water | |
250 | All-purpose flour - unsifted | |
2 | Eggs - well beaten |
1. Mix the sugar, salt, ginger, cinnamon and cloves together in a bowl.
2. Add the vegetable oil and the molasses, stirring until well blended.
3. Mix the baking soda into the boiling water and immediately stir into the mixture.
4. Add the flour gradually, mixing well after each addition.
5. Mix in the beaten eggs.
6. Pour into a greased 20x30 baking pan and bake at 175C for 40 minutes.
Author's Notes: This moist gingerbread is a good recipe for the holidays or any other time. This recipe was originally published in Sunset magazine before I was born.
Top with whipped cream or lemon sauce.
