Beard Family Eggnog Recipe - Cooking Index
See Directions |
First a brief geographical history of the delicious holiday treat. Both my Papa and Mama's family used this recipe. Both sides were from Georgia. One from Macon, the Beards. The other from Hawkinsville (Pulaski County), the Fountains. Let me know if any of you have ever heard of or used this recipe. My brother is furious that I would share "our family's secret recipe" with the outside world. Therefore, if indeed this is a unique recipe please attribute its origin to my family name to keep me from being assaulted on Christmas Day.
INGREDIENTS
1/2 pint whipping cream per 4 eggs 1 egg per person 1 Tablespoon (Tbls) Bourbon (or Whiskey) per person Sugar Nutmeg (optional)
1 egg per person separate yolk and white into different containers
Add 1 Tbls sugar per egg yolk
Add only 1 Tbls sugar to egg whites
Add 1 Tbls Bourbon per egg yolk to the yolks Despite the urge, don't add an extra measure of Bourbon
Mix yolks by hand until blended, set aside to "cook"
Beat egg whites (can use hand mixer): until stiff
Beat whipping cream separately until stiff
Fold egg whites into egg yolks
Fold whipping cream into egg mixture (don't over mix)
Top with eggnog if desired.
Eat and enjoy! Hope you will enjoy this as our family has for many years!
