These are really wonderful and easy. I used homemade, unsweetened applesauce.
Type: Fruit2 cups | 125g / 4.4oz | Oats - uncooked |
1 1/2 cups | 93g / 3.3oz | All-purpose flour |
3/4 cup | 148g / 5.2oz | Margarine - , melted |
1 cup | 160g / 5.6oz | Brown sugar - firmly packed |
1 teaspoon | 5ml | Cinnamon |
1/2 teaspoon | 2.5ml | Salt - (optional) |
1/2 teaspoon | 2.5ml | Baking soda |
1/4 teaspoon | 1.3ml | Ground nutmeg |
1 cup | 237ml | Applesauce |
1/2 cup | 73g / 2.6oz | Chopped nuts |
Heat oven to 375F. Grease 13x9-inch baking pan. Combine all ingredients EXCEPT applesauce and nuts; mix until crumbly. Reserve 1 cup mixture. Press remaining mixture onto bottom of prepared pan. Bake 15 minutes; cool. Spread applesauce over partially baked crust; sprinkle with nuts.
Top with reserved 1 cup oat mixture. Bake 13 to 15 minutes or until golden brown. Cool in pan on wire rack; cut into 2-inch squares.
