South Carolina Style Barbecue Sauce Recipe - Cooking Index
1 tablespoon | 15ml | Vegetable oil |
1/4 cup | 15g / 0.5oz | Minced onion |
1 tablespoon | 15ml | Minced garlic |
1/3 cup | 78ml | Commercial yellow mustard - (like French's) |
3 tablespoons | 45ml | Ketchup |
2 tablespoons | 30ml | Light brown sugar |
1/2 cup | 118ml | Distilled white vinegar |
1/4 cup | 59ml | Water |
2 teaspoons | 10ml | Lemon juice |
1/8 teaspoon | 0.6ml | Ground black pepper |
1/8 teaspoon | 0.6ml | Ground cayenne pepper |
1 tablespoon | 15ml | Coarse salt |
1. Heat the vegetable oil over moderate heat. Add the onion and garlic and cook for 5 minutes, or until slightly soft.
2. Add all the remaining ingredients, and simmer sauce, uncovered, for 20 minutes. (The sauce will thicken slightly.)
