Caramelized Onion Focaccia Recipe - Cooking Index
3 teaspoons | 15ml | Sweet onions - thinly sliced (large) |
2 tablespoons | 30ml | Butter |
Salt and pepper - to taste | ||
1 tablespoon | 15ml | Marsala - sherry, port or sweet vermouth |
2 tablespoons | 30ml | Brown sugar |
Prepared focaccia bread* | ||
Grated parmesan cheese |
*From your own recipe or store-bought, or use refrigerated pizza dough.
Melt butter in skillet. Add onions and cook until tender. Season with salt and pepper. Add wine and brown sugar and allow to simmer until thick and caramelized. Spread over focaccia or other crust. Sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese.
Bake at 375F until onions are bubbly and the cheese melts.
Note: This recipe can also be used as a main dish.
