Canapes are things on bread. Put it this way, you can cut a slice of toasted Wonder bread in four, spread some Skippy on it, and call it a canape. Since this won't do for a swank cocktail party, try these...
Rolled Sandwiches
Refrigerate soft sliced bread until it is cool to the touch.
Prepare a cream cheese filling by softening cream cheese by hand or with a food processor/blender.
Add to the cream cheese one or more of the following: Chopped chives or chopped green onions Diced bacon or ham Watercress or parsley Spinach Worcestershire sauce or lemon juice
Remove crusts, and flatten with a rolling pin one slice at a time.
Spread flattened bread with cream cheese mixture and then roll it up tightly. Continue this procedure until the filling is gone.
Refrigerate the rolls until an hour before the guests arrive. Slice the rolls in a sushi-like fashion, creating little bite-size spirals. Set on a platter.
