Sweet And Sour Meatballs

A perfect Super Bowl appetizer! Just spoon the sauce and cooked meatballs into a slow cooker, set it on low and let your guests dig in.

Recipe Ingredients

1   Cooking spray
  = (5 one-second sprays per serving)
1 1/2 lbs 681g / 24ozRaw extra-lean ground beef
3/4 cup 46g / 1.6ozRolled oats
2 cups 396g / 13ozEgg whites (large)
1 cup 62g / 2.2ozOnions - finely chopped
1 cup 93g / 3.3ozGarlic cloves - minced (medium)
2 tablespoons 30mlDried parsley
2 teaspoons 10mlDried oregano
8 oz 227gCanned tomato sauce
6 teaspoons 30mlSplenda No Calorie Sweetener - or to taste
3 tablespoons 45mlMustard - spicy brown
1 1/4 teaspoons 6.3mlChili powder
1/2 teaspoon 2.5mlHot pepper sauce

Recipe Instructions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Coat a baking sheet with cooking spray.

Combine beef, oats, egg whites, onion, garlic, parsley and oregano in a medium bowl; mix thoroughly. Shape beef mixture into forty eight 1-inch balls; place on baking sheet.

Bake meatballs for 25 minutes. Transfer to a slow cooker and set on LOW heat to keep warm. Or, place in a heated chafing dish.

Meanwhile, combine remaining ingredients in a small bowl. Pour over meatballs and let heat about 10 minutes.

This recipe yields 12 servings; 4 meatballs per serving.
