Cheese-Onion Bake Recipe - Cooking Index
5 tablespoons | 75ml | Vidalia onions (medium) |
2 cups | 474ml | Milk |
1/4 cup | 49g / 1.7oz | Butter or margarine |
1/2 teaspoon | 2.5ml | Salt |
1/4 cup | 15g / 0.5oz | Flour |
1/8 teaspoon | 0.6ml | Pepper |
2 cups | 292g / 10oz | Sharp cheddar cheese - shredded |
Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Cut onions into thin slices; separate into rings. Place onion slices in an ungreased 1 1/2 quart casserole. Melt butter in saucepan, blend in flour and gradually stir in milk. Cook, stirring constantly, until thickened. Remove from heat. Add salt and pepper and cheese. Stir until cheese melts. Pour sauce over onions.
Bake uncovered at 325F for about 45 minutes.
Makes about 6 servings.
