Festive Green Beans Recipe - Cooking Index
1 tablespoon | 15ml | Olive oil |
1 tablespoon | 15ml | Butter or margarine |
3 tablespoons | 45ml | Leeks - well rinsed, (medium) |
And sliced | ||
2 | Red bell peppers - seeded, and (large) | |
Cut into thin strips | ||
2 lbs | 908g / 32oz | Green beans - trimmed |
1 lb | 454g / 16oz | Garlic clove - minced (large) |
1 1/2 teaspoons | 7.5ml | Salt |
1 teaspoon | 5ml | Tabasco brand Pepper Sauce |
1 teaspoon | 5ml | Grated lemon peel |
1/4 cup | 23g / 0.8oz | Sliced natural almonds - toasted |
Heat oil and butter in 12-inch skillet over medium heat. Add leeks; cook 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add red pepper strips; cook 5 minutes longer or until vegetables are tender.
Meanwhile, steam green beans 5 minutes or until crisp-tender; drain. Add beans to skillet along with garlic, salt, Tabasco sauce and grated lemon peel; toss to mix well. Sprinkle with toasted almonds.
This recipe yields 8 servings.
