Fruity Oatmeal Recipe - Cooking Index
2 cups | 474ml | Water |
2 cups | 474ml | Milk |
2 cups | 125g / 4.4oz | Regular (not instant) rolled oats |
1/2 teaspoon | 2.5ml | Salt |
3/4 cup | 120g / 4.2oz | Raisins or chopped pitted prunes |
2 | Apples or firm pears - shredded | |
Ground cinnamon | ||
Milk or cream - warmed, for serving | ||
Brown sugar - for serving |
In a heavy saucepan, combine water, milk, oats and salt; place over medium-high heat. Bring to a boil, cover, reduce heat to achieve a simmer, and cook for 5 minutes. Stir in the prunes, apples and cinnamon to taste; continue to simmer, stirring frequently, until tender, about 5 minutes more. Spoon into bowls. Pass milk and sugar at the table.
Yield: 4 servings.
