Vanilla Liqueur Recipe - Cooking Index
3 cups | 711ml | Water |
1 1/2 cups | 240g / 8.5oz | Brown sugar - (packed) |
1 cup | 198g / 7oz | Granulated sugar |
1 | Vanilla bean - (8") - split lengthwise | |
(or 2 tbspns vanilla extract) | ||
1 | Light rum |
In a medium saucepan, combine water, brown sugar, granulated sugar and vanilla bean. Bring to a boil; boil for 5 minutes, stirring until sugars dissolve. Let cool.
Pour into 2-quart jar with a tight-fitting lid. Stir in rum; cover. Let stand at least 2 weeks at room temperature before serving. Serve as a liqueur, over ice cream or pudding, or as a flavoring for milk drinks.
Yield: 7 1/2 cups
