Haring Salade (Marinated Herring Salad) Recipe - Cooking Index
| 1 cup | 237ml | Marinated herring - drained |
| (jar approx 200g) | ||
| 1 cup | 146g / 5.1oz | Potatoes - diced, cooked |
| 1 cup | 146g / 5.1oz | Beets - diced, cooked |
| 1/2 cup | 73g / 2.6oz | Dill pickles - chopped |
| 1/2 cup | 31g / 1.1oz | Spanish onion - sliced (small) |
| 8 | Lettuce leaves | |
| 3 | Eggs - hard cooked, quartered | |
| 2 | Apples - chopped | |
| Cream Dressing | ||
| 1 cup | 237ml | Cream 35% |
| 1 tablespoon | 15ml | White vinegar |
| 1 teaspoon | 5ml | Prepared mustard |
| 1/2 teaspoon | 2.5ml | Dillweed |
| 1/4 teaspoon | 1.3ml | Salt |
| 1/4 teaspoon | 1.3ml | Pepper |
The Dutch love herring. You can add or delete ingredients freely in this salad.
In a large bowl, combine herring, potatoes, beets, apples, pickles and onion.
Toss lightly with dressing. Arrange salad on individual lettuce lined plates. Garnish with eggs.
Dressing: In a small bowl, whisk together cream, vinegar, mustard, dill, salt and pepper.
Makes about 1 cup.
