Haring Salade (Marinated Herring Salad)

Recipe Ingredients

1 cup 237mlMarinated herring - drained
  (jar approx 200g)
1 cup 146g / 5.1ozPotatoes - diced, cooked
1 cup 146g / 5.1ozBeets - diced, cooked
1/2 cup 73g / 2.6ozDill pickles - chopped
1/2 cup 31g / 1.1ozSpanish onion - sliced (small)
8   Lettuce leaves
3   Eggs - hard cooked, quartered
2   Apples - chopped
  Cream Dressing
1 cup 237mlCream 35%
1 tablespoon 15mlWhite vinegar
1 teaspoon 5mlPrepared mustard
1/2 teaspoon 2.5mlDillweed
1/4 teaspoon 1.3mlSalt
1/4 teaspoon 1.3mlPepper

Recipe Instructions

The Dutch love herring. You can add or delete ingredients freely in this salad.

In a large bowl, combine herring, potatoes, beets, apples, pickles and onion.

Toss lightly with dressing. Arrange salad on individual lettuce lined plates. Garnish with eggs.

Dressing: In a small bowl, whisk together cream, vinegar, mustard, dill, salt and pepper.

Makes about 1 cup.
