Classic BBQ Sauce Recipe - Cooking Index
3 tablespoons | 45ml | Vegetable oil |
1 tablespoon | 15ml | Onion - finely chopped (large) |
2 | Garlic cloves - minced | |
1 cup | 237ml | Ketchup |
1 cup | 237ml | American-style chili sauce |
1/2 cup | 80g / 2.8oz | Light brown sugar - (packed) |
1/2 cup | 118ml | Cider vinegar |
2 tablespoons | 30ml | Steak sauce, such as A-1 |
2 tablespoons | 30ml | Spicy brown mustard |
2 tablespoons | 30ml | Worcestershire sauce |
In a heavy-bottomed medium saucepan, heat the oil over medium heat. Add the onion and the garlic and cook, stirring often, until the onion is golden, about 8 minutes.
Stir in the remaining ingredients and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to low. Simmer, stirring often, until slightly thickened, about 40 minutes. Cool completely. (To store, refrigerate in an airtight container for up to 1 week.)
Brush onto food during the last 10 minutes of grilling.
This recipe yields about 2 cups.
