Berkshire Blue Cheese in our A-Z - Cooking Index
Berkshire Blue is an American artisan blue cheese made in Berkshire County, Massachusetts.
Berkshire Blue is made by chief cheesemaker Michael Miller, a retired newspaper publisher who turned cheesemaker when he could not find a good enough blue cheese to eat alongside his early evening Martini. He contact Dr Alan Duffield, a cheesemaker in England, who taught him how to make blue cheese and licensed him the cheesemaking bacteria to allow him to start making a similar cheese in the United States.
Berkshire Blue is made from the milk of Jersey cows from a nearby farm. Limited availability of the milk means only 60 to 210 3lb wheels of Berkshire Blue cheese are made per week.
You can buy Berkshire Blue in most good cheesemongers on the east coast of the United States or direct from www.berkshireblue.com
